About Me

Hi, I'm Melanie Appleyard. I'm a teacher and emotional well-being coach, who facilitates social, emotional, and spiritual growth and transformation in adults and children, who desire to feel happier, confident, and more connected.

My background includes 12 years of experience as a teacher, supporting the social and emotional well-being of children. This has been developed by undertaking postgraduate courses in Personal, Social, and Health Education (PSHE) and Special Educational Needs Coordination.

I’ve written and implemented schemes of work to develop well-being in the curriculum and supported school staff to deliver this content. My role has involved identifying and planning support to develop the emotional well-being of children with low self–esteem. It’s involved helping to develop relationships with children who struggle to form and maintain friendships. It’s also involved helping those who struggle to recognize and manage their emotions develop skills in these areas.

I am absolutely passionate about teaching children these skills from a young age, as I know only too well how difficulties in these areas often follow us into adulthood, preventing many people from following their dreams, or achieving their full potential.

My own critical illness gave me a deeper, more personal insight into the importance of emotional well-being, and my recovery was aided by self-care techniques. These included Reiki, meditation, good nutrition, a positive mindset, a supportive family, and my super dog, Daisy, who taught me loads.

Quieting my mind through mindfulness and meditation has not only helped me to manage stress and anxiety, but it has also helped me to feel more connected and grounded.

In today’s busy society, there has never been more of a need for us to learn to quieten the mind. I strongly believe that teaching children this skill from a young age will help prevent dis-ease at a later date, which in turn can cause ill health.

I’ve had the good fortune to share my life with many furry friends over the years. From our cheeky cat, ‘Dodger the Lodger’ who came knocking at our door one day and soon moved in; our chipmunks, Oho and Timone, who kept us endlessly entertained with their determination and teamwork; and an elderly horse I used to look after, who clearly had her own perspective on life, I have been given so much love, laughs and enjoyment over the years. All these wonderful animals have entered my life with important lessons – to love freely – including yourself, to give willingly, to enjoy life, to have fun, to live in the moment, and to do what you love.

It is my absolute pleasure to help you and your children learn skills and techniques to help you develop positive mental health and emotional well-being, with the help of many wonderful animals.
